10K Fans on Facebook

Fans on Facebook. They come in different shapes, sizes and costs. Hell…they are not even called fans anymore!

Over the last 6 months, I’ve handled quite a few groups of fans. For lifestyle brands which invested a lot in engagement to others who just invested in advertising to achieve numbers. From fan pages of Filmstars who didn’t have to do much to garner 1L+ fans to movie pages where one can gradually study the ascent of a curve - pre-hype, post-hype, music release, PR stunt, curiosity etc….
Even got to see a massive Facebook media plan seeing the light of the day :-)

But at the end of the day juggling the role as a brand manager for the brand which employs me…this particular fan page has interested me the most. The journey from 100-10,000 took just a little under 6 months. Hardly any push marketing and not a single rupee spent in advertising. The key to a fan community lies at its core. One should always let the core build organically. It takes time and patience.

So the next time an agency offers to buy you fans a Rs 15 a pop. Take your time and think about it. A 10,000 well engaged, organically grown fan base will give you far greater results than a mechanically bought 1L fan page.

Have seen a 973.02% increase in traffic coming to Zapak from Facebook over the last 6 months as compared to the 6 months before that.
